Zonta House Refuge Association is a specialist provider of family and domestic violence services in Western Australia that provides safety, essential relief and support to women who have experienced family and domestic violence.
They are reliant on government, corporate and philanthropic support to deliver their wrap around services and continue supporting victim/survivors in the community. According to the ABS, one in six women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence by a current or previous partner, and in 2022 alone, 56 lives were lost due to violence against women.
Zonta House play a big part in the annual WA campaign 16 Days in WA, which invites the WA community to play a part in encouraging change to stop violence against women. The campaign takes place from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day. The 2023 campaign theme is Stopping Family and Domestic Violence: Play your part.
This campaign inspired Komatsu Australia employees to support Zonta House through our employee Live your Dream program, which gives recipients the chance to support a charity or organisation of their choice.
Ella Kent, Communications and Engagement Officer from Zonta House says the $10,000 donation will go directly to the charity organisation to further support the provision of these crucial services in the community.
“Approximately seventy percent of our funding is reliant on government support, so generous donations such as this Live Your Dream from Komatsu will provide much needed funding for our programs which are reliant on donations. We are incredibly thankful and excited for this support, and it will definitely make a big difference and a positive change in our community,” Ms Kent says.
