WHINCUP EXTENDS CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

A clean sweep of the Falken Tasmania Challenge at Symmons Plains Raceway has helped Jamie Whincup extend his lead in the 2011 V8 Supercar Championship Series.

14112011WhincupExtendsChampionship-(1).jpgWhincup now sits 194 points clear of teammate Craig Lowndes with just four races remaining. The TeamVodafone driver, who started from third on the grid for today's 200km race suffered wheelspin off the start and dropped a spot. He regained third by end of the opening lap and a slick pitstop on Lap19 saw him move into the race lead.

Whincup led to the chequered flag, taking his 51st race win and marking a major milestone for Holden, the manufacturer celebrating its 400th race win in the V8 Supercar Championship Series.

Unable to get a clean lap during qualifying left Craig Lowndes to start from 15th on the grid.

Lowndes worked hard to move through the tight field and claimed ten positions on his way to finishing fifth.

TeamVodafone will now travel directly to Melbourne to prepare for the Norton 360 Sandown Challenge which will be held this weekend.
