The Westpac Helicopter responds to serious accidents and critical medical emergencies across rural and remote NSW. Its ability to carry specialised equipment, some specific for paediatric care, can save lives during the vital window before a patient reaches hospital.
More than 170 golfers took part in Wendy’s Live Your Dream charity day, with raffle tickets, auctions and hole sponsorships helping raise an impressive $13,000 in addition to Komatsu’s $10,000 Live Your Dream donation. The funds will go directly towards purchasing specialist cardiac equipment for children.
“My son was born with a rare heart condition and our local hospital simply didn’t have the equipment or expertise to manage it. In the early 1990s, the helicopter service was still in its infancy and I had to drive to Sydney every three months for his care. I want to make sure no other parent has to go through the fear and helplessness I did.
“The golf day was Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service’s biggest single fundraiser in the last five years, and planning is already underway for another event next year.” - Wendy Mortimer
