The environmental benefits coming from the Komatsu Hybrid HB201-1 Excavator do not come at the expense of proven performance of the conventional Excavator.By harnessing the innovative electric motor recently developed by Komatsu, the company has created a highly efficient power system that converts energy generated when the upper structure reduces speed when slewing, storing the energy in the capacitor and then using it to assist the engine via power-generation motor when the engine decelerates.
Not only does this allow the engine to be used at lower speeds with higher-efficiency combustion but, equally importantly environmental impact, including CO2 reduction is key to the technological innovation of the Komatsu HB series.
Compared to an equivalent diesel only excavator, global HB205 Hybrid operators have seen CO2 emissions reduced by 10 kg per hour or operation. Over 15,000 operating hours, this equates to a saving of 20 tonnes of emissions or the equivalent of 30 medium sized cars.
Fuel Consumption is reduced by as much as 41%
Komatsu believes that the HB205-1 and the HB215LC-1 are ideal for customers who have a green image and who have a green initiative as part of their corporate principles. This Hybrid Excavator is going to assist customers in reaching their self imposed emission goals and the demanding regulations being established by the state federal governments of Australia.
Sean Taylor, Komatsu Australia’s Managing Director says that in releasing the world’s first hybrid excavator as part of the flagship Dash 8 excavator range, we have demonstrated out strong commitment to reducing our customers owning and operating costs – and also to making a real difference in reduction greenhouse gas emissions in the longer term.
The Environment is among our highest management priorities at Komatsu. We are reducing environmental impact on all aspects of business operations, from product development to procurement, manufacturing, logistics, sales and after sales service.
The heart of our Hybrid system is not only saving running costs but, also the saving of fuel emissions as part of our ongoing commitment to environmental initiatives.
The HB205-1 Hybrid Excavator is the latest proof of our corporate leadership and commitment to building a better future. Our Hybrid Excavator saves 20 tonnes of carbon emissions for every 1500 hours of operations. This equates to saving the annual emissions of 30 medium sized cars.
